In order to make your experience on myfreediet.com productive and helpful, here are some of the most common questions we receive regarding diet, exercise and weight loss.
Question: "I do not like fish, what can I eat instead"
Answer: For any food item that you either do not like, or cannot eat for whatever reason, we have included a substitution list for your convenience. The link for the list is at the top of your menu plan page. Access the menu plans by clicking the link at the top of the home page titled, "My free menu plans".
Question: "I am afraid to eat that many calories and these menu plans seem to have a lot of calories, won't I gain weight?
Answer: Unless you have a medical reason for your weight gain, I suspect that you have eaten way too many calories for quite some time now. After all, you need to lose a few pounds right? Okay, then rest assured you do not have to starve yourself in order to lose weight. And eating any lower than 1,200 calories per day will slow your metabolism (the rate at which your body burns calories) to the point you will actually hang onto fat instead of losing it.
Question: "I never eat that much food; there is no way I can!"
Answer: For the answer please see # 2. Another option for you is to split up your menu plan into little mini-meals and eat these meals every three or four hours throughout the day. This method of eating is actually a very good one as it helps to maintain energy levels and keeps your appetite in check.
Question: "Do I have to take supplements, in order for the menu plans to work?"
Answer: No, you do not have to take any special product in order for the menu plans to be effective. They are all caloric ally controlled and nutritionally balanced so if you use one of the plans in conjunction with a supplement you may increase your chances of losing weight, but it is up to you. Also, you do not have to follow these menu plans in order for any product you might be taking to work effectively, if there happens to be an eating plan you like better, that is fine.
Question: "I want a low carb menu"
Answer: We do offer a reduced carbohydrate menu but do not advocate using a very low, or no carb diet plan. No extreme diets on this web site, remembering that the only diet that is ever going to work for you is the one you can follow with a smile on your face and a wiggle in your walk for the rest of your life.
Question: "What in the world does "Xchg" mean, I see it on my menu plan page?"
Answer: Let us clarify the meaning of that Xchg column. It does NOT represent exchanges like in a diabetic plan. It only represents the category of foods in the software program that I used to build the menus. For example, Xchg 2 represents the protein category; Xchg 5 is the dairy category. So in other words, ignore that column. "
Question: I have diabetes, and can't have sugar, do you have a plan for me?"
Answer: For those of you with ANY MEDICAL CONDITION, we advise you seek the advice of your doctor and ask him or her for their dietary and exercise recommendations. We are sorry, but we cannot offer medical advice.
Question: "I have bad knees, how can I exercise?"
Answer: Low impact activities are easier on the joints, swimming, bicycling and walking are all fine examples of low impact exercise. But we recommend that you speak with your doctor about seeing a qualified physical therapist in your area before starting any exercise program.
Question: "How soon will I see results?" "How much weight should I expect to lose?"
Answer: As you know, everyone is different, and everyone loses weight at their own pace. So in order to see results as soon as possible, we suggest that you follow a healthy diet plan like the ones on this site, and follow a regular exercise program-like the exercise programs found on this site. Having said that, please understand that you did gain the extra weight overnight, nor will you lose it overnight. In fact according to the government a safe weight loss is considered to be ½ to one pound per week.
